A Success Story of Adaptation and Commitment
In today's fast-paced world, staying fit can be challenging, especially when life throws curveballs like injuries or transitioning into retirement. However, the journey can be made easier and more enjoyable when you embark on this adventure as a couple. In this blog post, we'll explore the inspiring success story of one couple who adapted their training regime and discovered the transformative power of working with a personal trainer.
I first met Julie and Simon, a couple in their early 60’s who found themselves facing several challenges. They had various health needs and they realised that traditional workouts wouldn’t suffice; they required a training plan tailored to their individual needs while still allowing them to support each other.
They decided to hire me a Personal Trainer who specialised in rehabilitation and an individualised approach to fitness. I assessed their physical capabilities, discussed their goals, and crafted a flexible yet structured program that catered to Julie and Simons fitness aspirations. The couple began training together, which not only gave them a shared goal but also made the process more enjoyable.
Training as a couple has numerous benefits. Julie and Simon found that working out together fostered a sense of accountability. They motivated each other to stay committed to their fitness goals, even on days when their motivation waned. I encouraged them to set specific, achievable goals, which helped them stay focused and measure their progress.
Their program included low-impact exercises that were safe for both to complete, whilst also mixing up high intensity work when needed. They incorporated strength training, flexibility exercises, and cardiovascular workouts that kept them engaged and prevented boredom. As they progressed, they learned how to adapt their training to accommodate any physical limitations, which empowered them to take control of their fitness journey.
Since starting training with me, both have are now enjoying their retirement and keeping very busy. Simon’s diabetes has sometimes impacted the nerve sensations in his feet and Julie has undergone a knee replacement which we planned her training thoroughly before and afterwards. They are now very active in their granddaughters life as she keeps them on their toes.
Julie and Simon frequently express their gratitude for my expertise and support. They appreciate the tailored approach to their training and the encouragement to push past their limits.
This is what they have to say about training with me.
“Gemma has been our personal trainer for several years. My husband and I felt that, as we approached our 60s, we needed to improve our fitness. We thought that having our own personal trainer would enable the work programs to be tailored to our specific needs as we grew older, and this certainly has worked well for us. We started in person and moved to Zoom during the pandemic. We have 2 one hour Zoom sessions each week and every week is different! Gemma adapts our exercises to suit any medical constraints that inevitably crop up at our age. Of course, there are times when you really don’t feel like doing exercise, but knowing Gemma will be there at a specific time just makes you get on with it.
I recently had a knee replacement operation and Gemma worked with me on strengthening my leg muscles before the operation and afterwards. I am sure this helped with my speedy recovery and I have great movement in my replaced knee.”
The personalised attention has made a significant difference in their journey, making workouts something they look forward to rather than dread. The trust developed with me has equipped them with the skills and knowledge to continue their fitness journey independently.
